Chiropractic Care

Harwood Chiropractic

Let’s take a brief look at how your body works.

Your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. These important functions are controlled by your brain and spinal cord via your body’s complex nervous system. Your brain and nerves continuously monitor and co-ordinate everything that is happening in your body.

The skull protects your brain. The moving bones of your spine protect the spinal cord and nerve roots. A lack of movement or abnormal movement of the spinal joints may interfere with the normal function of your nervous system.

Chiropractors refer to this as “subluxation”.

Chiropractors are the only health professionals trained to locate and correct subluxation. By using specific chiropractic adjustments to reduce subluxation and nerve interference, chiropractors give your body a better chance at normal health and function.

What is an adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is the skilled use of delivering a specific force in a precise direction, to a joint that is stuck, or not moving correctly. This adds motion to the joint, helping to gradually restore normal function. The purpose of this safe and natural procedure is to permit improved spinal function, improved nervous system function, and consequently, improved health.

There are many ways to adjust the spine. Chiropractors may use their hands; or have the aid of special adjusting tables; or have you lie on pelvic blocks; or use specialised hand held instruments. Which technique is chosen is dependent on your individual circumstances - an elderly woman, an elite footballer and a baby will obviously require very different approaches.

After years of university training and clinical experience, each chiropractor becomes highly skilled in the delivery of a variety of adjusting approaches.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Digital Spinal Analysis

neuroTHERMAL™ scanner

This instrument monitors skin temperature to assess autonomic nervous system function

sEMG

This highly researched chiropractic tool provides accurate readings of paraspinal muscle activity and neuro-muscular energy expenditure

neuroPULSE™ HRV

All of this information, when considered in conjunction with your history, physical examination and any additional tests that may be required, gives the best clinical picture of you, to allow us to make the best recommendations for your individual care.

Approaches to Chiropractic care

Relief Care

At this point, our goal is to help ease your pain or symptom as quickly as possible. This is usually the most intensive stage of care, and aims to reduce pain, restore joint function and control inflammation.

Corrective Care

Corrective care addresses the long-term, bad habits of your spinal movement. It can help retrain how your spine moves. Corrective care typically consists of consistent adjustments over weeks or months, depending on the severity of the case. At pre-determined intervals, full progress examinations take place in order to measure your progress.

Support Care / Wellness Care

As part of a natural, healthy lifestyle, people recognize that in addition to nutrition, exercise and emotional balance, proper body function is essential for good health. Just like tending your garden or maintaining your car, little bits regularly, often reduce the need for major overhauls.
